It’s the Little Things
I spent a good chunk of the day before Thanksgiving standing next to my broken down car in the cold, pouring rain. I had just run out for a quick errand with my parents, who had just arrived from New York, and Lilly, who was already one hour late getting some lunch. Since we had just finished buying some Christmas presents at Toys R Us my mom was armed with the extra thick toy catalog available at the store. She and Lilly went page by page through the catalog picking out all the princesses while my Dad and I waited for roadside assistance outside.
When all was said and done, the car battery was charged, we arrived home safely and Lilly was so delighted by the novelty of having talked princesses with her Grandma for a while that she didn’t even think about the meal she missed until I had it ready for her to eat three hours late.
So this year, I’m thankful for the little things. A charged cell phone when I needed it. AAA membership that was still valid. My dad to keep me calm and in good company in the rain. My mom to keep my daughter happy and entertained. And a safe trip home.
Happy Thanksgiving to all!
